GP, insurance & emergencies
If you need medical help in Groningen, your first point of contact is usually a GP (huisarts). For non-emergencies, contact a GP first — the GP can refer you to a specialist if needed. Register with a GP near your address as soon as possible.

Health insurance
In the Netherlands, valid health insurance is mandatory for everyone who lives or works here, including international students. You are not automatically insured — you must arrange it yourself.
Aon student insurance

Dutch basic health insurance
If you work next to your studies, you may be required to take out Dutch basic health insurance instead.
